the problem was dht wasn't working with utorrent at all. i looked it up and most solutions involved
port fowarding and firewall exceptions, none of which applied to me since i have a direct connection
and don't use a firewall.

bitcomet worked with the trackers right away, and that's where i got the peers from. i was using
utorrent 1.8.5 if that makes a difference.

it probably does make a difference.. lots of security holes have been filled. 2.2.1 worked fine for me
and i've never had a problem connecting to trackers like everyone is reporting. 2.x in general is good
as long as you get the classic skin to improve things visually. the upcoming 3.x though... not sure
about that one.

what has change ?? to the site no longer can download anything from eztv but one does work for a
torrent that was before the site shutdown.. so its not me

again, it worked for a lot of other people so odds are that it is, some how, on your end, whether it's isp
or client. are you using magnet links? if so, try using the actual .torrent file. try a different client? try it
from a different connection?

i believe this is what is causing peoples tracker problems. most torrents now only have udp trackers
instead of http trackers (this reduces the tracker load and has some other benefits (and some
drawbacks) but if, like me, you do not upgrade a piece of software untill there is a feature in a new
version you need or want, that may be your problem. i have not upgraded utorrent in years because i
had no problems with the version i liked. utorrent does not support udp trackers until version 2.xx
for those who say ooooooo you don't update your programs...... yes i update (not upgrade) my
operating system and my av software but i never upgrade till i really want or need to.
