i didn't have to sign up for anything.
if it was bt chat don't get tricked by their advertisers though. sometimes looks like you are
clicking to download the torrent but are actually clicking an advert or something.

if you just wait, the download occurs by itself.

if that wasn't the situation then i don't know what happened to you.
