why does it feel like the shows concept is 'earth died and only the douchebags survived'?
i see here the same problems caprica did when you compare it with battle star galactica reimagined.
the settings are good and appealing on the concept level. the problem is that most of the main characters
if not all of them are weak and kind of lame.
bsgr introduced us to characters who were likeable at the start with action scenes that made them look
pretty cool even and only later showed us the ugly weak side of these characters.
ironically in this one most of the main characters who get the protagonist screentime are either lame or
douchebags, the only characters that look kind of cool and inspiring are the villians (mitchel and outcast
leader).
so its like they are expecting characters like cas (half the time i need translation to understand what hes
saying) or tipper ( weak smartass emo boy) to grow on us somehow but the truth is that we as viewers
did not yet learn to care about what is happening to them because we can't identify ourself or find
ourselves in these characters, so the whole sandstorm episode seem abit like bsgr wannabe rubbish..
this one however is bbc and hopefully evades the cancelbanhammer most shows get.
the good thing about bbc productions is that they dont ram it down your throat week after week. they
give you six or so episodes then leave you hanging......wanting more, eg;
so far, the brit critics have bashed the show pretty bad. this drives me nuts. quality tv is like
fine wine. you have to uncork it and let it breathe for a bit. it takes time for themes and
characters to develop. we shouldn't demand that all shows fall into the same mold: the flash bang
in your face types with fancy production values that try to hide what's missing (ie, the meat).
there are far too many csi miami type shows already.
i've seen scifi bloom and really get going as a tv genre and now i'm worried that it's turning into
a flash in the pan. i've read speculative fiction all my life and it kills me to think all the
important ideas and moral dilemmas of the genre will get kicked to the wayside because we just can't
sit still long enough to engage in something worthwhile.
i was a big fan of earth 2, too. it had its campy goofiness, but there was a lot that went
unexplored due to being canceled. same with defying gravity. don't get me started with firefly,
that still makes me cry.
i dont see how you have a trouble understanding cas... anyhow... love this show. ive got my fingers
corssed it goes a few seasons. theres a ton of stuff to be explored here... the ac's the previous
humans, the whiteouts, the disease that killed tate's kids, and im sure much more as things
progress. plus i wanna see burger get killed... that bastard.
