hart hanson must have a soft-spot for writers or something. with bones, he created a show that barely resembles the book
series or characters from it (not to mention the personalities are vastly different). granted, the show is much better than
the books, so i suppose we can forgive him for giving someone a regular royalty check for something that, for all intent and
purpose, he created himself. (he could easily have been "inspired" by the general nature of the setting and gone from
there.)
but now, with news of him "adapting" yet another book series (if you can call it that, since only two books were published,
and those were four years ago), the bafflement returns. once again the described spin-off and character have almost no
recognizable similarities with the original material, beyond the protagonist's name and chosen profession of "finder." (he's
even going to be half the book version's age, and a vet of an entirely different war that happened 35 years after the former
ended.) seriously, how did "i wanna do a show about a vet who now finds people" end up being an adaptation? it's not like
those two concepts, which appear to be all he's "adapting," would have been plagiarism to work up into a unique series. i'm
all for giving credit where it's due, but c'mon, this is getting ridiculous.
next he'll be doing a story about a bald guy that still lives at home, and asking the charles schultz estate for permission to
pay them a regular fee for the privilege.
