i would say its a season 9 pre-season special showing the best of season 8.

missed the start of this episode, but i read in the paper that near the
beginning they discuss richard hammonds crash in the jet car while doing
something like 286mph. dont hold my name to it, i could be wrong. but yes the
rest of it is the best of season 8. season 9 airs on bbc2 28th of jan!!! cant
wait for clarkson!

this was on last nite (sunday the 7th) on bbc 2
it was called "top gear: best of british"
cant wait for s9 top gear owns all your bases!
