fox are certainly the most mercenary of us tv networks but sometimes they're right... just not with
firefly, drive and many others.

i don't see the point of canceling a show after 2 episodes. haven't the already spent at least a few
million dollars producing the episodes? at least let it go 5 or 6, or do they lose that much more
money by airing those shows?

most networks expect instant payback for what they invest in. they're not willing to give a show a
few chances, and frankly they never learn from their actions. case in point firefly - what other
first-season cancelled show got it's own feature-length film? imagine if fox hung onto that series?

i thought lone star was easily one of the most interesting new shows, so i think the cancellation is
really too bad.

giving a show only 2 weeks to find an audience is a total joke. i know fox is bad for that, but it's
just pointless and makes no sense to me. whenever a show gets canned this fast i always think of
past shows like cheers or mash, which both had horrible ratings at the start (cheers was in last
place its first few weeks iirc) but were kept on solely because of influential people at their
networks and of course, eventually got huge after fiding a proper timeslot.

i'm not saying lone star compares to those shows but again, my point is you can't prove anything in
2 weeks. at least try a different slot for crying out loud!

why do i even bother watching new shows? i'll never learn.... and, how is 4 million a low number? with all
the channels and so many different show options that are available nowadays, how can they even expect
huge numbers? after only 2 weeks? really?

i watched a bit of this show... quickly lost interest when it became apparent that it was a texas love fest.
please. texas: we excute the mentally retarded. personal bias prevents me from enjoying much of
anything from the land of loss and disorder.

good or bad, right or wrong, the responsibility/blame/whatever-you-wanna-call-it for this
cancellation lies entirely on the us viewers.

we can rant endlessly about the unfairness of the nielsen system, the inherent evilness of fox, what
number of viewers is actually the right number and whatever else you might think of. in the end, it
all boils down to this: whenever a new show isn't a reality show or a cop procedural, us viewers
don't tune in.

i've disagreed with certain fox's decisions in the past, but let's be honest, they're not running a
charity. if a show filled with has-beens and wannabes dancing badly pulls in 25 mil. and a forensic
show repeating the same old tired formula for the past 8-9 years gets 15-20 mil. every week, then we
don't have a right to complain to fox for sticking to those formats. every time they try something
new, nobody watches.

it's sad but us tv is what us viewers made of it.

they certainly are not ... and don't forget that fox is a major employer in the us media world which
- as a company - carries certain responsibilities. additionally, the whole tv world is more of a
shark basin which does not help with establishing new formats or non-average entertainment.

i would not dare to call 3-4 million viewers nobodies. but compared to the really huge numbers fox
is used to, this surely is not acceptable. a format like lone star might have been more successful
at hbo. but then again, hbo has certain expectations towards actual quality of a show (quality as in
acting, writing ... yada yada yada)

i think fox placed this show in a time slot where at best it could barely survive the first few weeks. for
them to cancel it 2 episodes in shows that they didn't either want or expect this show to make it.
personally, i think it was going to take a little while for people to realize that "the event" is a waste of time
and a little while longer for others to see their fav celeb to get bounced off of dwts. also, the age group
that show was intended (imo) for was the male 25-45 or so range who would more then likely be watching
mnf to root for their fantasy players, favorite team, or the point spread, or will be watching two and a half
men to have a few laughs.

fox is one of 4 major networks. those network's top shows average 14 million+ viewers (that have a
nielsen box). so, if only 4 million out of 14 million are watching, that's pretty damn bad.

this isn't a cable network like mtv that considers 5 million people watching "jersey shore" to be a
massive hit. this is a network that considers 14 million people watching their shows to be average.
