underbelly has been a universe unto itself for me, a 40 american. the golden mile was my intro into
this series of mini-series and thankfully so, for it was polished to perfection. being their 3rd go
the writers were experienced and exacting. the directors knowledgeable and demanding. and the
actors left drained and exhausted by the end. notice i do not mention the plot. there was a plot,
something and something, shootings and such, you know. the plot was merely a web that pushed
characters into our conciseness. a bored niece of a well liked cop, turned 'escort', always trying
to stay one step ahead of consequences with character development that will send you to the internet
for more. detectives so amoral they are oblivious to the maturing society around them. and a
couple beat cops taking the tortuous' pace playing witness to change never ending. yea, there was a
plot it was 'ya better grow with the times mate and be able to afford the consequences.'
underbelly is a machine, a factory, an organization. it is departments that mesh, focus that
chisels. how can one import such an animal, feed it some american history, transplant some
producers, writers and directors and expect it to live?
this makes no sense... they are going to reshoot an oz show that was based on real oz history, thats
already been done perfectly well in australia, with aussie actors?
or are they going to fictionalize/americanize it for yet again no reason? what, are they goin to put
it in la or something?
