good for him, he should get as fast and far away from sgu as he can!
well said - robert's been around since day 1 and he is probably the first to realize what a colossal joke the franchise has
become since they completely shafted atlantis in favor of this new crap which would have been better named as:
stargate: the star trek voyager/battlestar galactica hybrid(because we the writers\producers have no better ideas) --
or my personal choice
stargate:ego - the nicholas rush soap opera(occasionally featuring a stargate and never featuring aliens)
unfortunately i was watching it and perhaps never was a bit strong but still in total there was what 4 or 5 scenes throughout
20 episodes that featured prawns clearly based on early concept designs for the creatures in district 9 and 1 scene with a
ship of prawns shooting at them...wow
anyone else remember when sg1 and the atlantis team use to encounter aliens every week? and by aliens i don't mean
those lucien alliance people.
anyway this post isn't about that it's about robert cooper's decision to leave hardly anyone could fault him given the
direction this show has been going, why would he want to be associated with it and screw up his chances of ever having
success again.
uh....writer, executive producer/showrunner, and occasional director for the last fourteen years?
eh, i'm a typical viewer in that respect. i remember (some of) the names of people in front of the camera, and almost
never those behind it, unless they're named deluise. lol

you are, of course, entitled to your opinion, however flawed it may be. (just teasing.)
seriously, i really don't get the harshness coming from some fans towards the new series. granted, atlantis did seem to
end prematurely, but two things come to mind regarding universe. first, everything stargate (tv) from the past has
been over-the-top, bubblegum stuff, like an old dc comic book. the aliens were almost always human-like and either
spoke perfect english or had some device to do it; the scientific problems were always nailed in under an hour by the
resident uber-genius who alternately boasts and whines the whole time; military situations always go bad at the
beginning, but mystically get the tables turned at the end, etc. i enjoyed the shows, but by the end it really was getting
pretty bad. atlantis had become an awful stereotype even before they brought in a klingon (shhh, we weren't supposed
to notice that). secondly, it's painfully obvious that they're intentionally trying to make universe starkly realistic, and see
if it can fly without the gimmicks and fluff. i'm not completely overwhelmed with the show (it's growing on me), but i
very much appreciate the attempt on their part to stop assuming i'm an uneducated couch potato that needs the
gimmicks and fluff. universe may not be perfect, but i'd rather see the writing get better and the show succeed than
declare a need for the dumbed-down fare to return.

lol....fair enough

i don't either, to be honest. i often wonder if these people and i have been watching the same shows.
atlantis was an awful, awful series. it started off alright, but by season 2 it had lost its way and continued
to get worse until that abomination of a series finale.
even if you don't like universe, it's hard to fathom how anyone could argue with the fact that sgu is
superior, in every way conceivable.
i think this could be good for sgu. i feel like stargate has been in a rutt since the whole ori
story line started in sg1. and even in the best days of sg1 it was somewhat of a bubblegum-bullshit
show. it was only the mythos and chemistry between the characters/actors that made me love the show.
atlantis seemed to digg itself out of this towards the end by invoking factional politics within the
wraith which was interesting but then got canceled. i wasnt in love witht he concept of sgu at the
beginning but now its grown on me. i think cooper leaving might actually help the show and prevent
it from falling back to the typicals of the sg franchise in the coming seasons - at least i hope.
as for the aliens thus far... they arent a copy of the d9 aliens... they just happen to have reverse
legs and insect like heads... thats hardly something specific.. in fact there have been at least two
species int he sg universe that had these traits (both extinct oddly enough) before d9 ever came
out. not to mention having similar races sprinkled throughout scifi/fantasy literature. in my eyes
these traits are a staple, and arent unique. d9 was a great movie but i didnt find the aliens all
that unique or groundbreaking.
and i happen to like rush... him and greer are by far my favorite characters followed closely by
wray - though that may be because of my long held crush on ming-na wen :-)
i think the harshness of the response comes from the view that this series simply isn't really part
of the stargate universe. frankly it feels like it belongs more in the bsg universe. fans of sg-1
and atlantis had a certain expectation from the franchise, and sgu just isn't delivering on that.
add the fact that atlantis was axed to make way for this and it's a miracle it's generated the
ratings it has, which i can only assume come mainly from non stargate fans.

just because you don't like something, doesn't make it 'not really part of the stargate universe'. the sg
universe is what the showrunners say it is, and that currently is sgu. sga was garbage and deserved to
be cancelled during second year, not allowed to fester and rot for 5 seasons the way it did.
fyi: i loved sg-1 from beginning to end (yes, even the cam years). finally in sgu i've found a worthy
successor.
