okay peeps, i will try to explain my problem as best i can. please be patient
with me cause i am new to this and have no idea where else to turn ☹️

i have downloaded an .avi file. i used an avi divx to dvd svc etc converter to
convert the file to dvd, pal format.

then, i used the dvd video (nero vison) add video files option to burn the file.

now here is my problem, it works fine in my own dvd player, but not in my
friends who it was a gift for?

her dvd has all the formats listed as compatible on it; dvd, vcd etc. for the
life of me, i know its gotta be something simple, but why why why does it play
on mine and not on hers?

*cries help meekly*

please can some kind knowledgable person help me out?

:)

it may be that its just a bad burn, that your player somehow plays. try another
type of dvdr and burn slower that might fix it.
then it could be that your friends player cant read dvdr at all. some of the
more expensive models can detect the type of media and refuse to play anything
that not a original pressed dvd. the best dvd players are usually the cheapest
... they may look like crap but they play everything.

it could be that you have added the files to the dvd using nero "create a vr"
and if so you need to finalise the dvd. or burn using nero "create a dvd" and
get nero to convert the avi file and burn to dvd direct.

or you have burned to dvd+ and the player only plays dvd- or the other way
round... ive just thought did you burn the dvd as nero digital?

first off... nero vision will convert the avi to dvd format for you... you did
not need to convert it in some other program first..

in fact, thats the whole point of the nero vision part of nero is the
converting.. i don't even see how you burned an already converted dvd format
with vision... you should have had to use the nero burning rom part of the suite
for that..

start up the little nero smartstart program that lets you select what you wanna
do... choose the option for "make your own dvd-video".. that should start up
nero vision... use "add video files" on the right hand side to choose the avi
files you want... press the button at the bottom that says "more >>" to open an
options bar, and then choose "video options"... in the window that pops up
choose the "dvd-video" tab... leave most of the settings on automatic.. but
under "encoding mode:" make sure you select "high quality (2-pass vbr)".... then
close those options screens...

when you hit next to the page where you select menu's... select "do not create a
menu" from the drop-down box in the top-right... this will give you a better
compatibility in more player brands and models, as alot of boxes do not get
along well with custom menu screens!..

hit next twice, and burn... wait while it both transcodes the video for you and
burns the disc, all together... thats all it takes.

i suggest putting 2 episodes per disc, for video quality.. possibly 3...
and in my experience, +r discs have better compatability with most boxes..
