don't britons go out and visit people for christmas and new years? are they trying to fail in the
ratings?

these are the supposed dates, but it isn't officially locked in until tuesday. they could change the
times between now and then.

and while i'm not from the uk, i do know that a number of them sit around as a family and watch
shows like doctor who on these days. the queen gives an address broadcast to britain and australia
via the tv (and i assume radio, though i only know that australia gets the tv broadcast). doctor who
is seen as a family show in britain and as such, grandparents, parents and children alike all enjoy
sitting down watching a good episode of doctor who. since these are david tennant's last two
episodes they will pull ratings, i have no doubt. just like matt smith's first official episode will
get the ratings it needs, since everyone will be wanting to see the new guy in action.

i'll miss tennant, but i'm excited to see how matt goes!

also...

a) the previous specials were all "christmas specials" as well; afaik this was the first year with
additional specials.

b) i liked the eccleston doctor, and was wondering whether the next one could live up to
expectations. it just natural to think the same way with tennant leaving. besides, i do hope that
the bbc is doing their casting carefully enough.

c) as far as regenerations go, if they keep up the pace of changing doctors quickly, they will soon
"have" to provide some explanation (or at least i hope they will) concerning the limit of 12
regenerations...

i think they should take everyone by surprise and let the doctor regenerate either at the end of the
first part or well before the end of the second, similar to what they did when doctor 5 changed to
6. that way we are already used to the new doctor by the start of the new series.

in doctor who it was always about the stories and the show runner, less about the actual people
portraying the doctor (save pertwee/baker perhaps), so i am quite confident the series will remain
the same quality wise. very excited about steven moffat taking over, though.

in a question that spans a couple of recent news items: with mininova toast, where will impatient
north americans find the excellent mad_martha releases? [mm] is a mark of quality.
