as a fan of science fiction in general, i'm pissed that fox is pitting dollhouse against stargate universe
which has much of the same fanbase. there's got to be room on the schedule for everybody to get
their cut. does live broadcast count for that much more than dvr, reruns... eventual syndication etc.?
whedon & co. really raised the bar in the last few episodes of season 1. the unaired 13th episode
(which was an epilogue of sorts) sealed the deal for me as a fan to see it through to the end. but this
season the bar has been lowered. tahmoh penikett's character's changes have undone some of
season one's tension. fox promised permission for more of a seasonal narrative arc (as opposed to
stand alone eps), hopefully they will deliver.
i would toss dollhouse out in a heartbeat to have terminator back, which was a top 10 for me, where
this would be lucky to be a top 50. sgu also is already amazing and i would choose it over dollhouse
without even having to think it over, if we lived the the archaic pre-net dl days.
what it really comes down to, is i think nielson numbers just aren't that accurate when it comes to
heavy sci-fi shows. i personally don't know anyone(although i technically haven't asked everyone)
that has ever had or even seen a nielson box, hell most don't even know about the scheme.
i also didn't think it would last past this season. i figured at best a 50/50 shot at full pickup,
but more realistically a 25% chance.
live broadcast counts for all of the ratings. dvr's mean that you can fast forward the adverts. the
adverts are what create the revenue to pay for these shows to be produced.
i'll be annoyed if this show goes. i am more upset about terminator & really upset about the unit
being axed on cbs.
if these shows were given the correct time slots on tv in international markets, they may have survived.
i know that in australia, the unit was pushed back to an 11:30pm timeslot. terminator has 1 season
shown. channel 7 in australia has been advertising reaper for almost 2 years now, and still havent
shown it.
god damn bittorrenting is good for us in australia. if we didn't have this, i think i would shoot
myself due to the lame stuff being shown on free to air tv. like i really want to watch survivor 19:
joe's swamp.
there is only a handful of new shows that are coming out, that then get axed ie, defying gravity.
i hope that sgu doesn't get axed either.
i love dollhouse, i love joss whedon, i love eliza... dont they realise that just because it airs on
tv - cant they produce it as a dvd release, then they get money for the unseen episodes!!! i loved
sarah connor chronicles too, but they could turn it into the john connor chronicles and finish
it - i was really disappointed that they didn't carry it on... they could do a new show like they have with
csi, csi miami and csi new york... the same but with a new name... how hard is it to figure that out
fox!!! i'm in australia and i don't like fox for what they have done...
face reality this show was a questionable idea, badly executed without one sympathetic character. you
could put it in any timeslot you like it still wasn't going to pick up a wider audience than the jw fanboys.
the only reason it wasn't canned last year was because the fox were scared of the fanboys, and their
reward for giving the whedonites what they wanted? more whining about the timeslot, the promotion,
the suits; and of course the only one not to blame for this is joss whedon, i mean the problem can't be
that his idea/execution sucks right?
