720p or HR

in response to the release of a 720p episode of lost:

i personally think that eztv should make popular shows (24, lost, heroes, prison
break, etc.) available in 720p .x264 ac3-5.1. the .avi container is outdated and
everything is going hi.def. we should all make the switch.

please post your thoughts and opinions...

i have a hardware xvid/avi decoder (atmt hv355). it can\'t handle the hr files.
keep the current dual format releases please.

720p all the way. i mean, it's a joy watching a show with really good picture
and everything.. so yeah, i think they should give us more 720, especially when
it comes to popular shows.

i didn't download the 720p, but honestly hrs are best for me. much more than
that and my poor cpu most likely wont be able to keep up.

in addition, the extra 350mb is a pain on my slow connection. if the 720p
releases were the same size as hr i'd probably download them. 😛

i don't think the internet is fast enough just now.
it takes a while for the hr to d/l nevermind a file over a gig.

but!

true the world of hd is moving fast, maybe if enough people ask for the 720 hd
files then maybe eztv will get them up on this site for you all.

everything is better in hd ........ (just takes ages to download).

well, i downloaded it. (only took 7 hours.....) yes, it looks very good. but my
poor cpu and crappy integrated graphics just can't handle it. it can do hrs
fine, but with this the audio and video skip like crazy. i've tried four
different media players, all do the same thing. it's just too much for my old
computer 😛

the hrs look good to me on my 19inch widescreen computer monitor, and they
playback fine on my computer... so i'd honestly rather have them. besides, i'm
not one to archive tv shows, so i usually download, seed, watch, delete. it's
not worth it for me to download a whole gb file if it's gonna be deleted after
one watching.

i use a modded xbox running xbmc. looks as if the cpu / memory can't hack the
720p. so, until i get a replacement, i'll hafta grab the lower-res versions.

...but you don't have to use your xbox do you? i still will use xbmc for the
lower rez torrents, but i fully support the 720p releases.

nothing is in cement yet, so don't get your hopes up yet. it is still in deep
discussion at the moment.

higher def is better i know, but my pc just now wont play stuff in the x264.
i'm not sure why even the hr hdtv shutters abit.
but that aside, the shows would go to over a gig wont it?.
would i lose torchwood if you are dropping the shows that arnt so popular.
so your saying drop the 700 meg hr hdtv altogether for the 720p files.
can you not get a 720p file in xvid/divx or will it have to be x264.
is there nothing else the file can be in?.

just now i would rather stay with the hr hdtv.
can you not just release the 720p as well as the (350) and the (700).
or is that just asking to much from the cappers.

the cappers are not under eztv's influence or control. they release what they
want to release. the (expected) files available from the scene are the regular
res xvid, the hr xvid and the 720p x264. no other file combinations are available.

xvid would be unworkable at the resolution of 720p anyway, the filesize would be
huge.

the reason not everything can be released is not the cappers, it's the bandwidth
and resources available to eztv to successfully and reliably seed things.
