i know she died in april, april 25th to be exact but let us not forget she only died about 10 days before
dom deluise, bea aurthur was an an amazing actress. she had a career that spanned over 50 years in
television, stage, and screen. i was shocked not to see her on anyones "summer '09 death list", which
by the way says a lot about us its a little bit gruesome but unfortunately true.

something we have to remember, minus the 3 that were still fairly young we are coming to that cross
roads in our generation, were the pioneers of television, and modern politics are going to start leaving
us. its unfortunate but a fact of life never the less. it however is sad that so many of our idols and so
many pioneering forces had to leave us all in such a short time. it almost felt like whip lash you haven't
been able to turn on the tv with out hearing about another fallen star. kind of makes wonder whats in
store like there is some sort of cosmic house cleaning going on making room for all the new generation
of stars.

on a blacker note i think it all leaves us wondering who's next? we as a populous just can't help to want
to know who will befall us next at the same time we don't want to know, we want our idols to stick
around and continue inspiring us and entertaining us as well as legislating for us.

i guess what i am getting at is someone that was so larger then life in person and such a presense on
stage and screen couldn't make the list but gidget the taco bell dog could? makes you really wounder
where our priorities are on things. she is no less deserving of our respect then any other actor or
actress that has passed on these last few months.

to, be completely honest this is the first time i have even stopped to think about her death i was so
shocked and dismayed when i heard. it's amazing how a person you have never met and really know
nothing about can affect your life so profoundly. but, i think thats what's getting us all this summer is
never before have we lost so many people that have brought us so much hope and joy and it all feels
like its slipping away. the things that mad the entertainment industry so iconic is being left to people
like jason mchale, ryan secrest, and mario lopez. it's like this dynasty is falling only to led by much
weaker leaders in a time when we need strong forth right characters, i mean what does it say that some
of the best actors and actresses are under the age of 20. we are going to go through this entertainment
lull of nothing but surrealist comedy and sienfeldesq nothingness entertainment along with our over
sensationalized news mediums.

it truly makes me sad to see the state of things after this summer and losing so many. i know that no
one can ever take these icons places but i hope that there are entertainers and politicians a like that
can step into these several sizable pairs of shoes and help us find our way back.

wow, amber - that is a big response! 🙂

well said.

i am a big fan of bea arthur, so if i had written the above report rather than merely reference it from the original author,
there is no way i would have left her off my version of this list. i also take your point that it is a shame the newer
generation of (quote-unquote) stars is not necessarily made up of the same calibre of personality, talent and strength as
those we seem to be losing left, right and centre. it is all very sad - and on more than one level.

thanks for your comments.

i'm a little saddened by the fact that they put mary travers name in and left out henry gibson's. henry
gibson was one of the icons of the 60s with laugh in's wild comedy. everyone from that generation
remembers him as the foil for ruth buzzi whether as the weird german guy or the little dirty old man. i
loved watching him in all the comedies he did. guess that's what happens when you get older - some of
the people you felt were definite icons of your age barely go noticed at death.

i don't wonder who's next, but i am reminded that at 50 the fact that i'm still here and many others from
my era aren't is somewhat startling. it takes me back to when my first heroes started to fall, such as fred
astaire, gene kelly and groucho marx.

well, for one i know that the most informed journalist can make mistakes. what i find so very
interesting is that there are all these "summer death lists" each pretty much the same as a the first
maybe one name here or another name there that didn't make it to one list but made it to another in the
end its not really who made it on the list more that its about the fact that they're is a list at all. henry
gibson, mary travers, or bea arthur, i think it upsets me that there were names omitted from these
lists but upsets me more that we have taken such a saddening occasion and boiled it down to a nothing
more then a list.

yes you at 50 have lost far more icons in your life time then in mine. i am only 27 but its the sheer size
of this death tool that i think is making my head spin. your right however that people are forgetting
about these very beloved actors that really paved the way for things there boiled down to smaller roles
that coincide with perhaps bigger names, when in there own rights they had style and fans all there own
who will miss them greatly now that there gone. we are simply left with our memories and digital foot
prints they left behind.

well i try not to do anything half ass, i am a very big entertainment buff, even have a media credential.
worked in the industry briefly. not to mention long winded doesn't begin to describe me, opinionated as
well. typically when it comes to news articles and forums i am more of a by standard i read what
people write and its interesting but not often do i respond to it. however in this instance i felt the need
to share my dislike of the current state of things.

i hope you didn't take my response at all personally. i know you were just referencing another article, i
was also talking about other list i had read on line. "gidget" didn't make your list 😉

it is very sad that we don't hold these new actors to the same caliber as perhaps we did with the
generation before. i mean its not even actors anymore, its directors as well. i mean some of the stuff
falling into our movie theaters and on our tv screens just makes me want to wrench. we are in reboot
hell right now, some of it is great entertaining even. i just feel like some where down the line writers,
directors have stopped caring about the story and caring more about what we see, where is the movie
that is going to combine both elements to truly give us entertainment? those who try often fall short,
or the audience is to uneducated to get it for what it really is. if we want good entertainment we are
stuck with indie movies that don't get the praise they deserve or tv shows on cable that often times out
shine what we see on network television, syfy and tnt are very good examples of how cable stations
have started to out shine there network counter parts.

it will be interesting to see in the next few years how the entertainment industry irons it self out, but
who knows with everything moving to vancouver perhaps thats the new blood we need.
