this show is turning out to be a boring soap opera set in a futuristic spaceship. it seemed like it
had so much potential, but is focusing way to much on the little romantic inter-relationships
between the crew members. and super luminous (faster than light) communication hasn't even been
addressed in the show, they act like they can just send a signal on earth and receive in instantly
on a spaceship outside our solar system with no work at all....
this show is ultimately disappointing to us sci-fi space junkies.
hey deimos, i feel let down by it too but then there isnt any other sci-fi show on air currently to watch
so it'll have to do. about the communication thing though - they havent left the solar system yet so i
guess thats why there's no delay. i'm thinking they'll add the delay thing in when they reach mars which
will probably add flavour to the show since no comms for a long time will give them the feeling they're
all alone. anyway lets see how it develops. and yeh, i hope they slow up on those "going back to the
past scenes", its very "lost" feeling which can be anoying (for me anyway).

sci-fi junkies, like me, actually pay attention to the show. the spaceship is very much inside the solar
system, and will stay that way. the the foreseeable future at least. if you had been paying attention,
you would have picked up on the fact that their mission is a '6 year tour of the solar system'. it was
quoted many times in the first two episodes.
it's the impatient people like that, that want everything explained to them in the first 5 episodes,
otherwise the show is a disappointment, that make todays programming suck.
anyways, the episode was great. both quality-wise and content-wise. i do agree though that those
flashback scenes are annoyingly 'lost'-esque.
@jlk: no idea why it says us in the title. this is still a ctv version.
as for the delay on the comms, it is worth noting that with our current technology we can send faster
than light messages. it's very new tech but it was successfully done earlier this year, as the show is set
in the future it isn't too unrealistic that they've refined such a tech and it's common place now. of
course like others have said they aren't leaving the solar system, but they would still develop a delay
as even mars is something like a 40 minute delay with normal radio signals. none of this actually
matters yet though as they've only been traveling a a few days so they aren't really that far out yet.
i'm really liking dg too - people were complaining it was just 'greys anatomy in space', and i'm
glad they're wrong. human interaction is the core of good sf; it shouldn't be all 'phase shift the
polaron array' technobabble.
i also really liked this episode - they were falling into the 'everything weird that happens is
beta's doing' trap, and they nicely turned that expectation on its head. even the final explanation
made fairly proper engineering sense instead of being cool sounding words strung together and a deus
ex machina, and i love it for that.
@itadaku23: no i didn't fail, i knew exactly what i was saying and i meant it. you may find that if you'd
taken the time to google it you'd realize i was also correct. anyways since you were too lazy here is a
link to an article about how someone has already made radio signals (just radio signals) go faster than
the speed of light. http://www.universetoday.com/2009/06/30/device-makes-radio-waves-travel-faster-than-light/
if you don't like the article or want more information google still works. you've got the inventors name
now so it's not hard to find more info if you want it. it's all very new technology and there certainly is
still discussions going on about it.
i think you have to cut tv shows a little slack on the comms lag, if they were realistic about it,
excluding technological breakthroughs, then it would just suck the life out of dramatic exchanges
between the ship and ground control and that's no way to grab the general viewers without whom the
show will just be another sci-fi series that was 'too complicated' to survive in the ratings war.
um did anyone notice that both episode 4 and 5 are the same file? and both were posted a week apart,
where is the real episode 5????? anyone????? seriously, where's the "arm" breaking down episode,
where somethings not working right? the wrong video was uploaded eztv dude, sorry man, but wrong
one is accurate! dl both from everyone (4 and 5 listed in the search from eztv, search defying
gravity, 1 week apart each, and they're both the same dl...).
