recently my university has been sending out extremely paranoid letters about
subpoenas for downloading copyrighted materials, and the troubles of protecting
students in the case of an actual court ordered subpoena for a downloader or
sharer of such materials. i plan on not getting sued for my relentless work and
downloading of basic tv that is free to me at home but for some reason is viewed
as infringement when i download it because i am not near my tv. the fact that i
share this media with other people should, if anything, make me a less likely
target, as i am doing a good thing for many people free of charge.

i realize that the threat of a lawsuit is not unique to me. many people have the
problem of being sued or threatened, and the media companies have a precendent
of settling. the average downloader that gets a subpoena for infringment woul
rather have a low cost out of court settlement than pay lawyer bills and fight
for the right to download tv. i feel that this will enforce the regard that
settlement, and therefore a boost to the confidence of the media moguls, is a
bad move on a downlaoders part. the precedent can be set in our favor with one
good lawsuit, and there will be no further warnings of infringement, no need to
hide and run from the riaa and mpaa for downlaoding a show from eztv. we need
money to win the next lawsuit. i don't know a better forum to start an
orginization to protect the sharers of free televison then eztv, the tv torrents
site to recon with.

the next time there is a suit, there should be no settlement, but a grandsclae
victory for torrenting everywhere. i am not asking you to support me if i get
sued, but rather that we all support anyone who gets sued for this freedom. if
we all split in, we can achieve great things for the tv torrenting community.
please tell me what you feel about this and if you have any tips or suggestions
on how to beat the cognitive dissonance we feel when we torrent. we know it
should be acceptable, yet we are hunted for doing it.

ill pass. people in canada still need seeders and rippers from america, and if
they get sued, there is still a problem.

you must be studying applied fairy tales if you think that a community effort
would ever stump up enough cash to out-lawyer the media cartels in a real
precedent case. 😉

anyway ... they don't give a flying fuck that you watch download shows. or
even that you share them around.
they care that you do it *without the adverts* </realistic cynicism>
