wow, if you're expecting either of those shows are you going to be
disappointed. it's a good show, but bares no resemblance to either
stargate.
sanctuary has a large number of connections with the stargate franchise. the
show's creators, damien kindler and martin wood, are a producer and directors
for stargate sg-1 and stargate atlantis. amanda tapping has starred in both
series, and christopher heyerdahl is a recurring character on stargate atlantis.
several guest stars from the first few episodes - david hewlett, paul mcgillion,
kavan smith, and chuck campbell are starring or recurring characters on stargate
atlantis as well.
oh the similarities to stargate go far beyond casting.
geeky guy in glasses is ridiculed by his peers for his outlandish beliefs and
theories. propositioned about a job by a mysterious woman in the pouring rain.
goes to secret base and learns he was right all along. i think i've seen this
one somewhere.
regarding the stargate franchise connections .. i hope they keep the deluise
clan from getting their paws on it, but alas i am sure the hardcore supplier of
ordinance to the butkicking daughter is the older deluise brother ... groan!

i was thinking the same thing, it made me want to rewatch sg1.. >.<
tapping looks strange with dark hair, but other than that the a/v is good.
i think some are mistaking superficial similarities with being the same as sg1
or atlantis. so it shares some of the same writers and actors, it still isn't
anything like the stargate shows. the premise, while on the surface can be
comparable, so could it be comparable to most other shows, eg x-files, x-men,
heroes, primeval, heck even dr who if you want to draw comparisons. not to
mention tons of other shows over the years.
i think sanctuary is unique enough to stand aside from all of those though.
i'm not watching at all because who is in it, but rather because it's
refreshingly different enough from the others. in fact if this were just
another stargate, as borgkiller's post seemed to indicate, i would be quite
disappointed.
