nice! 720p this early. now that is fast - it's normally several more hours
before we get it!

excellent job!

i'm afraid to start download these big 720p's because of how many proper/repacks
there have been.

droidika32: i've watched it and can't say i noticed anything odd about it,
except where my pc wasn't quite fast enough for the decode. most of the repacks
have been for the 350mb eps, some to fix quite big issues. the few 720p repacks
have mostly been to fix video glitches and short desynch problems. this one's
clean as far as i can tell.

if you have a pc that's better than my 2.4ghz p4 (and let's face that's not hard
to do these days - anything less than 2 years old should walk all over it) then
you should be fine. heck, it's the slowest of the bunch in our family and i'm
the computer geek! i have plans to remedy that situation though ... eventually.
i'm thinking core i7 quad core. until then it'll do the job ... just barely.

general rule of thumb: if it's been released on eztv for more than 12 hours and
no one's whinged about problems with it, then it's probably fine.

i also think they tend to take more time to get the 720p's right first time most
of the time.

with a major spoiler but i am glad i did. it makes me want to see
the next episode even more now)

i am blown away and so happy that is how it turned out.
wow this is by far the best thing to happen in years on the stargate shows.

this episode was fine for quality, and omg to that spoiler link. wasnt expecting
that.

does anyone think that these 720p's just arent as clear as they should be? i've
been noticing a drop in quality lately... wondering if its my pc, or if the
quality of the rips is actually less these days.

i am using coreavc and ac3 filter, though i'm using zoom player.
a celeron. that doesn't tell me enough: which model celeron? is it a pentium 4
based celeron or a core 2 based celeron and what speed is it running at? just
the fact it's a celeron doesn't mean it shouldn't be able to beat a 2.4ghz p4 -
as i said *any* cpu (and i'm mainly talking desktop cpu here) less than 2 years
old, celerons included, will walk all over a mid range p4.

"celeron d 340 2.93 ghz of 9/2004 a bit older than 2y..."
that's the answer right there, it's a p4 based celeron so it can essentially be
compared directly by the clock speed with my p4, so you've got an extra 530mhz
of speed. the celeron's smaller 256kb (vs my full p4's 512kb) l2 cache will
slow it down a little but it will still be faster than my 2.4 and given mine's a
marginal machine i would expect yours to be fine. as for my the 2 year comment,
i was being rather conservative there.

"i suppose you are using this coreavc"
[whistling]maayyybbbeeee, hehe, although it is an old version with no settings
to play with, but seems to perform about as well as 1.1 does with the extra
filtering turned off.

maybe i should try a newer version. hhmm, so 1.8 is the current version. i
guess there's potential that they have improved the performance somewhat since
1.1, maybe it's time to do some hunting. even if it's only a slight improvement
that'll probably be enough on a marginal machine like mine. it seems they have
made improvements given these spec requirements for "720p video at 24-30fps"
being a 2.2ghz p4. sounds like time to upgrade to me.

hehe, yup. goes to show i should check for updates more often and see if there
are any performance improvements in them. one reason i hadn't in this case was
that there wasn't much improvement in performance between the old version and
1.1, and i had thought there were several versions between them. having just
checked the change log i find the 2 were quite close together and there have
been many changes since. i just get tired of checking for updates to all the
different bits of software, drivers, etc on the machine, so i often don't bother
until i find something new that doesn't work with what i've got, or an issue
comes up i need fixing - i guess this just became one of those issues.

end result: now running 1.8, and after checking last week's atlantis (509),
(with the playback-taxing outdoor action scenes) playback performance has
improved and those scenes that were lagging somewhat are now playing back much
better. we'll see how it goes in the next few weeks on many different 720p rips
- i should notice much less (if any) skipping back a few seconds to resynch the
audio during playback. of course if i do have to jump back to resynch then i'll
reduce or turn off deblocking to make it go faster.
