probably because the opening credits were made 4 years ago and not originally
shot in full hd?

okay, maybe this is a dumb question, but is it possible that for 720p you need a
hd-capable pc? i 've downloaded all the codec packs i can find, but i still
can't play this .mkv files. not with vlc, not with mpc, not even with kmp (great
player btw). any help?

admimin: vlc player does play them but you need a powerful pc. otherwise you
can try mpc with coreavc and ac3.

also do not do the beginners mistake of loading your pc with codec packs you
will only create problems. for files form here you need only a few. codecs not
packs...

mkv files are ok to play in my computer with the ac3filters and cdecs, if you
want the high resolution you have to have an hdready or a fullhd screen.
in mycase, i convert he mkv int mpeg4 files, pass it on an usb drive and enjoy
on my hd tv set through my ps3
