sounds like voyager, and would there be an actual stargate they used in
"stargate" universe?

after reading up as much as i could about this concept/series, it does have
potential, as long as they don't go nuts to make it kiddie/young adult friendly.
the two previous series had enough to catch the attention of someone younger, if
they were truly interested in science fiction. you don't need a cast of
extremely young people to attract younger viewers, if you are interested in the
concept/story. i was interested in star trek : tos, in the early 80's when i was
just 7 years old. why? because i liked science fiction and it entertained me, it
clearly had nothing to do with the age of the cast. idiots.

it's still a shame that sga was bumped like this, allowing this new series to be
born. i could have waited for a new series if it meant i'd get a few more
seasons of sga. but at least we still have the direct-to-dvd projects for both
sg1 and sga to keep those teams and stories going.

it sounds ok, until:

the new series will also be aimed at a slightly younger audience, sci fi
president dave howe said.

"this is an opportunity to reinvent this franchise and make it relevant to a
new
generation," he said. "we really don't want to be more of the same. it's going
to build clearly off the existing franchise but with a cast that gives it a
younger vibe."

that seems to me like it would just kill the show before it began, a yonger
vibe? ah crap!

could they not have given sga another season or 3?

sounds like they will try "dawsons creek" in space

but, yes, i do hope its not....

and i must disagree, i am glad they are ending sga this season, i truly
believe they lost there way, and would have only ended up killing the
franchise completely had they tried to go on, dont get me wrong, even
the "trapped in a ..." episodes are ok, because they are stargate. but . you
can only take so many of them.

those stand out episodes that i used to watch 2/3 times within the first 24
hours, are few and far between when it comes to sga

anyone remember sg-1 episode 200, and the 'younger, edgier version' of the show?
here's hoping they arent thinking of anything along those lines! i feel sorry
for the guys who created the concept of stargate universe and are now possibly
being told to dumb it down and make it more teen friendly by scifi; i've been a
fan of the franchise since i was 7, i enjoyed it then as much then as i do now
if not more!

so in this new stargate voyager, sorry universe, a pre programmed ship to go
boldly in search of a red dwarf ... so essentially they will be
lost in space.
so are we to assume that the crew are on a completely new galaxy quest, or just
another random star trek??
oh well we will see. if its no good, i know a good doctor who we can see !!!

was thinking the same thing. the premise of this show sounds like one part star
trek voyager and one part star trek enterprise. they just simply took out the
star trek and replaced it with stargate.

we'll see how this goes. also this "destiny" ship seems kinda funky. doesnt
seem like its an earth made ship, sounds like its some alien ship they stumbled
upon and are using it to travel the universe or something. /shrug

from what i have heard thus far (rumours, of course), the "destiny" is planned
as an actual ancient ship that can be reached by using the 9th chevron on the
earth gate ... it is also rumoured that the "destiny" is deploying stargates on
or near inhabitable planets.

i guess we will all know sooner or later ...

yep...sounds like voyager. old theme, different players. time will tell if
this *new and improved* series will stand on its own for a durable season or
two.

same here, in fact what scifi program has been directed at younger viewers
deliberately?

i would not say that any of the treks, bsg, b5, or stargates would seem to
comply with the 'young' angle these morons are proposing.
however it has not stopped young audiences from appreciating them.

let's hope those creating the content figure out how to do it right.

i will say this, i love space episodes of the stargates so it is a very
attractive possibility.

if they want to attract more viewers young and old, find an excuse for a 'seven
of nine' proportioned character.

yeah, good point. on both sg series, there was no clear cut sex symbol, heh.
bring in a sexy alien female, and toss in some good space writing, based on
stargate backgrounds and history, and you have just as much chance of drawing in
some younger viewers, heh.

i was excited about this until the following things came to light:

1)they cancelled atlantis to get the budget.
2) "the new series will also be aimed at a slightly younger audience, sci fi
president dave howe said."

enough said, this will be built of fail.

a mysterious ninth chevron? i thought those gates only had 7?

edit: ah, they used an 8th chevron to get in atlantis.. w/e. i guess the series
after will start with a 10th chevron?

i suspect that in the exec's minds this is a way to temporarily appease the gate
fans in regards to atlantis, then once its too late for that, they can axe this
after a season or two and then we will be gateless... then we can all enjoy the
many many cheap reality shows and lame tv movies they will make in its stead.

well, with that new data coming to light, perhaps this series can be directed at
the womb?
