i have just started d/l the bigger 700 meg hr hdtv version of heroes &
torchwood.

i thought i could make a good surround sound dvd with the episodes that i d/l.
i have been looking at the file's in (avicodec) file viewer, and found some
are of 2-ch and 5-ch and 6-ch the last being the 5.1 suround sound that i
wanted.

...(i can't re-encode them up to (5.1 surround sound) can i ??)...

i'm thinking not, but i thought i'd ask anyway.

if your only going to do a 2ch rip why do it in ac3 it takes up more room
within the file don't it?.
why not just use mp3 it isn't going to use as much space as the ac3 and it
will still sound the same. ""(won't it)""

i'm just alittle dissapointed that some of the hr hdtv rips i have are only
2ch that's all.

i'm still happy with the d/l's from you all i just wished that all hr hdtv
rips where in ac3 5.1 surround sound. that's all..

thanks (si) (uk) ;-)

yeah not all sources will have 5.1 audio. some networks don't broadcast 5.1 (cw
for example) and some local stations might not have the capabilities to pass it
through.
but you're right, ac3 isn't really necessary for 2.0 audio, however it seems
standard for groups to use the ac3 track anyway for hr releases, regardless. as
you can see, lately the ac3 tags have been removed from the release names since
most groups now don't bother to check whether their track is 2.0 or 5.1, and
with regard to the tv scene, there's no nuke rules on what ac3 tracks to
use.

and nah, you can't reencode 2.0 to true 5.1.

thanks (refreshe).

just wounderd why they had some in (5.1) and some in (2ch).
after i have read what you said i can understand i just thought all (hd) tv
was in 5.1.
i didn't know some only transmit in 2ch.

thanks again for clearing up these things for me.

bye for now (si) (uk) ;-)

i wondered the same thing, here is the thread:
http://eztvefnet.org/index.php?forum=view_thread&tid=965

i got a reply, and they said that ctu never encodes in 5.1. i looked, and all my
ctu releases were 2 channel, while the nbs ones were 6. so if i was you, i'd
steer clear of ctu when you can.

i would like to have a look at the thread as i have just started to d/l the
bigger files then i can make good dvd's for my collection.

total nonsense

ctu uses whatever the local station sends out. 80% of the time it is 5.1.
also ctu (no group) encodes audio. they use the ac3 demuxed from
the transport stream direct from the source.

nbs tags 5.1 even when it is 2.0 shows like smallville
and supernatural. both shows are 2.0 but nbs just says they are 5.1 because
nbs doesn't know any better. their local station just clones and/or mixes
the 2.0 to 5.1 and sends it out. it is not true 5.1 no mater what nbs tags it.

gee i wonder how i know so much about all this 🙂

thank you for the info evryone.

i don't want to knock anyone over 5.1 or if it's not, i'm just trying to find
out more about this as i have just started d/l the hr hdtv.

i thought all hr hdtv were 5.1 souround sound but now i understand why it
might not be.
i do think 5.1 is better than 2ch but if your source is only 2ch you can't do
anything about it (can you)!.
but after reading what you just said (zank), why do thay put in the file name
5.1 if thay don't know what they are talking about.
maybe if the station thay are getting it from say's it's 5.1 and they don't
know you can't knock em for that can you?.
but if thay do know that it's only re-encoded 2ch to 5.1 why would thay put on
that it's 5.1 thay should put on (ac3 2h) and not con people that they are
getting 5.1.

so thank you for the info and time (lesbian) & (n3|87) & (zank).
i will keep this in mind.

bye for now (si) (uk) ;-)
