this is very good (that's not a spoiler - just my opinion). i watched it on tv.
i wanted more but i have to wait till next week. ☹️

i think people will like it. it's made by bbc and hbo. i watched it on bbc. i
don't have hbo and i don't know when hbo plans to show it.

i agree with annabellie, really good. it feels like a drama documentary, telling
what really happend(sure, i wasn't there, i don't know if it's the truth). can't
wait for next ep.

actually it will be truthful, the bbc took a lot of flak from the uk government
during the war for being critical of the war. in the uk the media is still the
fourth estate, unlike the usa who's media courage of the war amounted to little
more than cheerleaders for the president.

excellent drama.
the tone was set right. the acting was stop notch. some of the scenes were horrific.
i just hope they don't water down the usa's early involvement in their collaboration with saddam.

...and mrtorch is correct. there is no fox news type pro-war media in the uk.
i'm quite amazed hbo were atached, but lets see if they dilute the american aspect.

how truthful can a fictional documentation about a dictators life be?
sure some things are probably accurate (more or less), some things not but for
example they put a lot of weight some aspects and forget others to get ratings
and no matter how opposed they are against the war they still live and die by
ratings.

all news services in the uk, including sky news, have a legal duty to be
impartial. sure it's difficult to exactly work out what impartial means; and
sky news has links with fox, but it has nothing like the editorial slant of fox:
i can watch sky news without cringing. as for the murdoch press - yes, it was
supportive of the war. but this programme was about saddam, not about the pros
and cons of the iraq war.

presumably the two countries misanthropist refers to are the uk, which made the
series (albeit with some american money), and iraq. when the uk and iraq went
to war, the majority of people were in favour of it, but a million people
marched in protest and a significant number of people voted against it in
parliament. the bbc was neither pro nor anti war, but the government (as is
often the case) felt that the bbc was not "on side".

as for the truthfulness, well it's a dramatisation. but some of it is taken
verbatim from video footage, other stuff from interviews with those present.

i think the point misanthropist is making is that two countries (the uk & usa)
went to war with iraq.

history is written by the victors, so the bbc and hbo could, if they wanted,
make up any old pile of bullshit and call it factually based. the only person
who could refute their account was last seen dangling at the end of a rope on
youtube.

well technically 2 of saddam's daughters and his second wife are alive with
known whereabouts and not wanted by anyone...

but are they likely to sue for defamation of character? let's face it their
family hasn't exactly had the best of luck inside of a courtroom, have they?
