swingtown, from the director of \"big love\" and \"rome,\" traces two generations of
friends and neighbors as they forge intimate connections and explore new
freedoms during the culturally transformative decade of the 1970s. it portrays
the ever-shifting “swing” of the pendulum that reflected the change in america\'s
collective value system -- morally, politically and socially.
after moving to an upscale lakeside chicago suburb in july of 1976, susan and
bruce miller must confront temptation in the form of their provocative new
neighbors, tom and trina decker, while not abandoning their old friends janet
and roger thompson. as the adult couples evaluate whether to embrace or avoid
newfound personal freedoms, the curious miller and thompson children begin to
discover and assert their own morality and sexual identities as they come of age
in a world on the precipice of change.
in a shifting social climate -- defined by its music, fashion and style --
everyone in swingtown is confronted with personal choices, experimentation and
varying attitudes.

i recall this show pre-airing last year (months ago). it looked promising then
and i\'ve been looking forward to seeing it. molly parker of deadwood fame,
stars. it has a similar authentic feel for the period it represents (the 70s)
as mad men.
not sure if this first episode is the same one we saw last year...but if it is,
it\'s worth watching a second time.

i watched the pre-air last year & thought it was one of only a handful of shows that sparked my interest.
definitely for the more adult minded audience, but i don't mean it in the 'adult' way. more in the
intelligent life experience way. intriguing.
solid acting & direction. production design is also quite handsome.
the delay was probably due to the writers strike & held up the show's original broadcast date of some
months back.
ignore the moronic trolls on imdb with their ignorant comments...
i'm kinda glad that certain people don't/won't like it. i'd hate to have their tastes in entertainment.

wow, that was molly parker? thanks for mentioning that! i thought she was
very attractive (love redheads) and something about her seemed familiar, but
not really her appearance, and by the end of the ep i decided i just hadn't
seen that actress before, and didn't even check imdb. but then, i know mp from
twitch city (one of my all-time fav series) where she had short dark hair.
anyway, ep was pretty good, will keep watching. cap was fine to me; didn't
notice the synch prob myself.

maybe not storywise/editing, but this is in widescreen, whereas the pre-air was full screen.
