the bbc web site has been down this evening so the link may not work, but the
cached page shows up.

replace - with . (don't know if it's the against the rules to post
links so thought i'd play it safe)

warren clarke, anthony head, dean lennox kelly and jenny agutter star in
a new comedy drama series by william ivory.

maurice riley and syd woolsey are old friends who return from the good life on
the costa del crime to a quiet devon fishing village. they plan to eke out their
retirement fishing and availing themselves of the nhs. however, the quiet life
is not for them. as their ill-gotten gains run short, they find themselves drawn
back into a life of crime, only crime has moved on and they've got new things to
learn.

the invisibles creator william ivory says, 'it's a dream of a cast. and what's
especially brilliant is the breadth of the talent on board. the invisibles is an
ensemble piece which means every character relies on the one next to them to
give full value in terms of what the script is trying to achieve. and that
means, in an ideal world, you're looking to fill every role with a heavy hitter
- but in truth you seldom achieve that. this time, i think we have...'

the invisibles was produced by company pictures (elizabeth i, shot through the
heart, shameless) for bbc one. filming took place in ireland and northern
ireland.

just to say, the quality of this vid is awesome. (for its size, obviously.)
why? because the source is 1080i over there in england, as opposed to 720 as it
is here. great cap.

quality of the video may be good, but the script writing and story idea are
weak. barely worth losing an hour's of one's life watching it.

ehehe, i damn near crapped my pants when i saw this torrent and the bia
(typically uk shows) tag thinking it was an adaption of grant morrison's the
invisibles series as well! uk tv is just crazy enough to try something like that
though it'd prob be better via animation then real-life imo. get some of the
animators from monkey dust and projects like that and away you go!

o.k., so this pilot was a bit silly/cheesy and with ash wearing too much make-up
- i still appreciate you people putting the torrent up here because maybe this
just means that there's still room for improvement, and also there's a big
gaping early summer hole coming up, with many series ending and not much going
on. and it wasn't really bad bad... and please don't disturb my bubble of
self-deception. *cringe*
*head desk* not in the *head desk* way.

hi guys,
all things aside this is yet another 700mb d/l.
i can't justify that size d/l to myself for a 'comedy drama'.
i'd like to watch it as i like jenny agutter but not this time.
there are always pros & cons to the scene rules of encoding & this time,
for me, it's a con. i can't afford that chunk off my d/l cap.

technically they could of encoded this at 550mb easily as its just 55.3min. in
fact i did a test recode of this to 350mb and it still looked just fine with out
macro blocking or anything bad and still good quant/drf stats.

but anyway, this looks like a potentially good show (better then i thought it
would be).
syd looks like he is a unknown british cousin of william shatner.

strangely there are consistent audio drops that are only about a 0.04 sec (40ms)
each and don't really interfere with dialog much but just noticeable. although
its still definitely watchable.

not quite correct...

in the usa, 720p is used by abc, fox broadcasting company and espn because the smoother image is
desirable for fast-action sports telecasts, whereas 1080i is used by cbs, nbc, hbo, showtime and
discovery hd due to the crisper picture particularly in non-moving shots.

also there's a big difference between interlaced video and progressive video. while 1080i (interlaced) has
more scan lines than 720p (progressive), they do not translate directly into greater vertical resolution.
interlaced video is usually blurred vertically (filtered) to prevent twitter. twitter is a flickering of fine
horizontal lines in a scene, lines that are so fine that they only occur on a single scan line. because only
half the scan lines are drawn per field, fine horizontal lines may be missing entirely from one of the fields,
causing them to flicker. images are blurred vertically to ensure that no detail is only one scan line in
height. therefore, 1080i material does not deliver 1080 scan lines of vertical resolution. however 1080i
provides a 1920-pixel horizontal resolution, greater than 720p's 1280 resolution.

@ death734,
i don't suppose you could encode & upload the file at 350mb size??
the answer may be 'no' but i said i'd ask on the off chance....
regards,

i can probably do so later tonight.
yesterday i just had to much torrent activity with all the doctor who stuff

yeah the source is 1080p but for 640x352 encodes any source as good or better
then 480p dvd wont yeild much of a difference on these encodes.

also european hd sources own ntsc ones not because of resultion but that they
are generally a higher bitrate and use the much better h264 codec rather then
mpeg-2. but mean while notice how there are few hd station and shows in hd in
the uk as compared to a large majority of usa stuff having an hd source
